Eight Acre Lake - East Yorkshire - 10th May 2005:

Well done to Ric for arranging my first visit to Eight Acre lake. This was to try out this site especially for those who often cannot make it to Capenwray for their drills.

I'm going to suggest we have a marking scheme (personal) so each reviewer can say what they think of each site.

Site location North Cave at the end of the M62 towards Hull. (8 out of 10)

Personal Facilities - changing room basic toilet basic (5 out of  10)

Diving area - not fully seen mud base can stir up but reasonable (7 out of 10) but lots of areas to visit and see.

Warmth - as this site is exposed to the wind above so for those above on a windy day good coat or shelter in the caravan.  DOWN BELOW VERY PLEASANT 11 DEG THIS IS BECAUSE THE LAKE SLOPES IN AND NO COLD CLIFFS. (8 out of 10)

Drills - very good access and points of interest for navigation, mask clearing, lower viz dives, rescue skills so a good site for those features (9 out of 10).

Depth - good variety not seen all of it yet but easy and safe (watch out for the shark & crocodiles) (8 out of 10) .

Staff - David the owner a keen diver and very aware of diver needs (makes a good cup of tea/coffee) very pleasant and willing to help.

Other key points -

Boat available for practicing simple boat drills (cost not known) and exit/entry to a rib.  (10 out of 10)

Drill space - very good lots of area around the lake grass embankments etc (8 out of 10)

Night dive/camping - very good facility willing to let divers stay overnight & have a night dive/barbeques etc.very good for practice in a safe environment (8 out of 10) .

Emergency - on site o2 need own phone to contact emergency services.  Help available from David the owner.

Number of divers - limited to 30 max.

Cost - £10 very reasonable

Overall a pleasant site with good potential warm for drills and other possibilities.

On that basis arranging another Tuesday evening dive on the 24th May all going well aiming for sports diver drills and other ocean drills.

Can you pass this onto any other dive members and let me know their email address to add to the list.

Dave Richardson.
